Tufts GCC E-Board

Tufts GCC is excited to welcome TWO delegations of select student leaders from China’s two elite universities to visit Boston next month. We will be hosting both delegations along with our colleagues at Harvard GCC and MIT GCC.

The first delegation comes from Peking University. Their visit is a part of an annual exchange program called the Global View Initiative, and the team consists of 16 select undergraduate students who come to experience American universities and interact with our students. They will be staying with us from Friday February 3rd to Saturday February 4th.

  The second delegation comes from Tsinghua University. The 17 delegates in this group are older, and include mostly graduate students and upperclass undergraduates. The students in this delegation all hold important posts at Tsinghua’s Student Council/Union and the Communist Youth League, and most are expected to go on directly to become cadres in the Party. They will be staying with us from Wednesday February 8th to Thursday February 9th.

WE ARE OFFERING YOU THE RARE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET AND INTERACT WITH THESE STUDENTS, and we will be hosting various social mixers and academic panels with these delegates. Now, we want you to help us host them during their stay here.

Tufts GCC will be co-hosting the 5th annual China-US Symposium at Tufts University, 9-10 March 2012!

The China-US Symposium is an education initiative that aims to explore and discuss the future of international relations between these two great nations. It is led by Tufts undergraduate students from all fields, and graduate students from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, with the support of The Institute for Global Leadership, ALLIES, and Global China Connection.

This year, we explore how the 2012 leadership transitions in China and the United States. The symposium is broken into four panels: Military Security, Diplomacy and Engagement, Economics and Business, and Law Development and Environment.

This is Tufts GCC’s headline event of the year, and will mark our first major conference event since our founding in the winter of 2010.

We are extremely delighted to announce that GCC-Tufts has received official recognition from the University, a decision that was made after a meeting with the TCU Judiciary tonight.

Local chapters including Harvard, Tufts, and MIT welcomed a delegation from our chapter at the University of Southern California, who were in Boston to attend the Harvard Xinhai Revolution Conference.

We had a great time and met some incredible people. A special shout-out to Harvard for hosting this mixer, and thank you all for coming!

A huge thank you for those who attended our Roundtable Lecture on the Xinhai Revolution. We had a full house, and very lively discussions that actually made the event go half an hour overtime.

This year, we received thrice the number of applications than we had positions for, with plenty of qualified, interesting candidates. After some very difficult deliberations, we believe that we have identified a strong, motivated group of people that can work very well together.

We are infinitely excited about our potential together as a club this year. The resources that GCC offers are in no way limited to e-board members, and we will do our best to help create events and foster connections between Tufts and other GCC chapters and members around the world.

First and formost, we’d like to thank you for your continuous support for our chapter and for the broader GCC mission: to build meaningful and global connections across the globe. YOU, as members, are the most important asset to our network and we cannot emphasize this enough.

This academic year, Tufts GCC will have a fresh start, under a revamped leadership structure, headed by Ben Wang and Yihao Li as co-presidents. And we hope to get our E-board assembled by the end of September.

Last night, we held a hugely successful General Interest Meeting, which attracted around 40 people (including Fletcher students) and gave us an immediate boost to our membership.
